# Essential Keyboard Shortcuts

There are a lot of keyboard shortcuts in VS Code. You don't need to know them all. You do need to know a few key ones before you can get started with the workshop.

On Mac, the Command, or **Cmd** key is used as the primary control key. On Windows, the Control, or **Ctrl** key is the primary control key. I will represent these as Mac/Windows respectively; **Cmd/Ctrl**

| Action | Keyboard Shortcut |
| -------------------------- | -------------------- |
| Toggle Sidebar | Cmd/Ctrl + B |
| Open Command Palette | Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + P |
| Open File Switcher | Cmd/Ctrl + P |
| Toggle Integrated Terminal | Cmd/Ctrl + \` |
| Open Settings | Cmd/Ctrl + , |
